Just a test run, to see how this works, if it works, and if it's worth the time...
Awhile ago, we started out with the idea of maps, and wanting it to be something familiar to them, we did 'Face Maps.' From there, conversation went to different facial parts and how they worked. We've been studying, building and experimenting with the idea of all of the following: mouth, teeth, tongue, saliva, swallow, esophagus and stomach. And then we added trachea, lungs, heart, blood, oxygen... It's been a swirl of words, activities and conversations. In preparation for a school-wide Science Convention, we're wrapping up our Face Maps by making 3-D ones from balloons and paper mache'. At the same time, we're starting experiments with wet and dry ingredients (food and water) to mimic what happens in the mouth with teeth and saliva. Here are some pictures of our latest work.
